Choose Optional Units and Agree Candidate Contract


Having reviewed the National Occupational Standards for your chosen qualification you should be in a position to choose which optional units you will be aiming to complete. For each NVQ there is a range of units provided. These are split up into the following;

  • Mandatory Units
  • Optional Units
  • Additional Units

Each are split into Elements which consist of:

  • Performance Criteria
    • What is competent performance
  • Scope and Range
    • Circumstances in which the job is performed
  • Knowledge and Understanding
    • What a person needs to know
  • Performance Evidence
    • How a person demonstrates competence

Each NVQ route has optional units attached, a minimum number of these must be chosen in order for the NVQ to be completed. The number of optional units required to complete the NVQ is indicated in the course information.

You will be required to agree a candidate contract between yourself, ABE-Assess and your Assessor, this contract ensures commitment and support from all parties in the development of the candidates portfolio.

The contract outlines the necessary commitment from the Assessment Centre, employer and candidate.
