The Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) is being developed by The Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE) in conjunction with the Association of Building Engineers (ABE) following the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO), to cover the role of a Fire Risk Assessor.
The introduction of the RRFSO has changed the responsibility for compliance with Fire Safety Legislation in England and Wales from the Fire Service to the ‘Responsible Person’; the term ‘Responsible Person’ dictates an individual who is the owner/occupier of a building. The Legislation dictates that a ‘Competent Person’ undertakes a Fire Risk Assessment of the premises, compiles and submits the report to the ‘Responsible Person’ and oversees any actions arising.
This qualification is currently being developed by the ABE and ABBE. It will be available at Level 3, which covers smaller, simpler premises and Level 4, which covers larger more complex buildings. On completion of the FRA VRQ candidates will be able to demonstrate awareness and understanding of aspects relating to undertaking and maintaining a Fire Risk Assessment.
Further information will be provided in due course.
