About Scotland EPCs Certification

The Association of Building Engineers (ABE) has entered into a Protocol with the Scottish Building Standards (SBS) in relation to the production of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in Scotland.

Graduates, Associates, Members and Fellows of the ABE have the opportunity to be certified under this Protocol to produce EPCs for existing, residential and commercial buildings for both sale and rent.

Members wishing to offer services in this area are required to complete the Word DocApplication Form and submit with the following information:

  • CV
  • Job description
  • Copy of Professional Indemnity (PI) & Public Liability (PL) Cover
  • A basic Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) certificate
  • Your original/certified copies of Energy Assessor qualifications and/or certificates and evidence of related CPD/delivery
  • Appropriate application fee

Before application please ensure you have also read and understood the Word DocEnergy Assessor Codes of Professional Conduct which have been provided specifically for your role as an Energy Assessor.

These are to be adhered to in conjunction with the Word DocABE Codes of Conduct provided as part of your membership of the ABE.

This protocol does not currently cover members to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) under Regulation 6 of the Scottish Building Standards for the New Build sector.  The ABE will be reviewing this and other areas to create further opportunities for members in the near future.

Cost

The fees are as follows:

Training Fees separate
Assessment of three EPCs per certifier category £200 + VAT
Annual fee (includes listing on website and assessment of annual CPD)
Domestic £170 + VAT
Non Domestic £250 + VAT
Combined fee £360 + VAT
Replacement certificate  £20 + VAT
Complaint enquiry £250 + VAT

Candidate Eligibility

Those who are not currently members of the ABE will be required to obtain membership prior to applying for certification. For details on membership opportunities and routes available please visit the (external link) membership area on the ABE website.

Member grade must be Graduate, Associate, Member or Fellow.
