The Association of Building Engineers (ABE) has entered into a Protocol with the Scottish Building Standards (SBS) in relation to the production of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in Scotland
For full details on the agreement
download our Protocol Guidance document (Also available in
PDF format)
This comes as a result of the introduction of the European Energy Performance Buildings Directive (EPBD) which has been created to raise awareness and reduce carbon emisions for all homes and buildings in the EU.
The EPBD sets out the standards for various types of energy certificates, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Display Energy Certificates (DECs). It contains information on methods of energy assessment, how often assessments and certificates must be issued and what each certificate must contain.
Visit our Energy section for more information.
Graduates, Associates, Members and Fellows of the ABE have the opportunity to be certified under this Protocol to produce EPCs for existing, residential and commercial buildings for both sale and rent.
Members wishing to offer services in this area are required to complete the
Application Form and submit with the following information:
Before application please ensure you have also read and understood the
Energy Assessor Codes of Professional Conduct which have been provided specifically for your role as an Energy Assessor.
These are to be adhered to in conjunction with the
ABE Codes of Conduct provided as part of your membership of the ABE.
This protocol does not currently cover members to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) under Regulation 6 of the Scottish Building Standards for the New Build sector. The ABE will be reviewing this and other areas to create further opportunities for members in the near future.
