Health & Safety – CSCS get your card

In response to members and employers requests the association has worked in conjunction with the Construction Industry council and CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) to develop a scheme involving the mapping and measurement of Member’s qualifications within the CSCS process.  The Association is pleased to announce that it has received approval for inclusion on the list of Professional Bodies for Technical, Supervisory and Management CSCS cards (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) was established in 1995 with the objective of helping the Construction Industry to improve the quality of construction sites and the workforce, reduce accidents and remove “cowboy” builders.

Increasingly clients of all sizes are insisting that only CSCS carded workers are allowed on their sites.

The scheme is open to all members of the ABE from, student to fellow, the only variation being the level of card available.

Student Members will be eligible to apply for the RED card.

Technician members will be eligible to apply for the GOLD card.

Associates, Graduates, Members, and Fellows will be eligible to apply for the PLATINUM card

Members are required to follow the process set out below:

Apply for and pass a touch screen Health & safety test, currently costing £17.50 or have sat and passed the test within the previous two years of applying for the card

Members must complete an appropriate application form for the card which can be downloaded from (external link) ABE-Assess or the (external link) CSCS Website

Members are required to complete the following sections:

Section A          Your details
Section B          Occupation & card details
Section C          Employer Declaration (signature 1 only)

The completed form is to be submit with a passport size photograph and a cheque for £25 made payable to Construction Skills to the Association of Building Engineers, Billing Brook Road, Weston Favell, Northampton NN3 8NW.

The Association will review the form and complete Section C, signature 2, providing the Member has paid their subscription for the year.  The completed application will then be forwarded to CSCS for processing.

The card once issued is valid for 5 years and is renewable upon application providing that the health & safety requirements in force at that time are met and the Membership of ABE is still valid.

Professionals who are not currently members of the ABE are able to achieve their CSCS card through the completion of an appropriate NVQ, a full suit of NVQ’s are offered by the ABE Assessment Centre.

As a professional you may wish to apply for membership of the ABE

Information on the levels and requirements of membership is provided on the following website (external link) www.abe.org.uk or you may enquire by emailing membership@abe.org.uk or by phone on 01604 404121.
